On Saturday 6th June, Yass Landcare Group's Clay Day for Kids was an outstanding success, with many local children joining local artist Sui Jackson for a creative morning of clay making, laughter, and community spirit.
The workshop focused on creating individual pottery pieces that will become part of a larger community mobile to be installed in the garden near the nursery. Working in conjunction with the Yass Men's Shed, the finished artwork will be a lasting community feature that participating children can proudly identify with and enjoy for years to come.

Inspired by the beauty of our local environment, the theme for the day centred on 'native leaves and gum nuts', with children carefully crafting clay pieces that reflected the shapes and textures found in nature. As the morning progressed and the weather warmed, there was plenty of serious concentration as young artists shaped and refined their creations. At the same time, the workshop was filled with friendly chatter, laughter, and a wonderful sense of camaraderie.
It was inspiring to see the creativity and enthusiasm of all the children involved, and we hope they feel proud of the contribution they have made to this special community project. A shared morning tea provided an opportunity for everyone to relax and connect before the children organised a variety of games and activities to enjoy together before heading home.

Yass Landcare Group would like to thank all the children, families, volunteers, and local artist Sui Jackson for helping make the day such a memorable success. We look forward to seeing the completed community mobile take pride of place in the garden.
Be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming Yass Landcare Group events, including the 2026 Yass Landcare Art Competition. The exciting new theme will be "Local Possums and Gliders in Their Environment", encouraging participants to explore not only these fascinating native animals but also the environmental challenges and impacts they face in a changing world.
