Yass Landcare Brings Birds, Nature Craft and Native Plants to the Yass Show

Yass Show on 21 March provided a wonderful opportunity for Yass Landcare Group volunteers to connect with the community, share local environmental knowledge, and bring a little nature-inspired creativity to the day.

This year, Yass Landcare teamed up with BirdLife Australia to host a stall with a nature craft theme for the young at heart. Throughout the day, younger visitors enthusiastically created collage artworks using pastel crayons, leaves and flowering reeds, while others put their creativity to work designing nests from readily available natural and recycled materials.

There were plenty of wonderful drawings inspired by our local birdlife, with many children taking time to observe and celebrate the birds that share our local landscapes. The creative nests on display showed just how imaginative simple materials can become in young hands

The stall itself was beautifully dressed with Landcare posters, native blossom and foliage, including striking red Callistemon cut from outside the Yass Landcare Community Nursery. Visitors were also invited to choose a tubestock native plant to take home for their treelines, shelterbelts or gardens, an easy way to continue Landcare at home.

Our three volunteers were kept busy throughout the day, answering questions about local projects, native plants and ways people can get involved in caring for the Yass landscape. Events like the show are a valuable chance to share ideas, meet new people and encourage small actions that make a difference

We hope everyone enjoyed the show and the welcome rain that followed.
